The Homeplace 1850s Working Farm at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area will host its annual Independence Day Weekend Celebration on July 2-4 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to celebrate America’s birthday in 1850’s style with old-fashioned games, patriotic tributes, historic handicrafts, and more.
Scheduled programs feature tinsmith tinkering, paper lantern creations, festive pie baking, a farm-totable dinner, outdoor competitions, and even a hot air balloon launch. “The 4th of July was one of the biggest holidays in the 1850s, and we are excited to continue the tradition through providing an authentic celebration experience for families today,” said Chris Kelly, lead interpreter at the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm.
