38th Annual Oktoberfest

Holy Cross Catholic Church is having their 38th Oktoberfest at the Henry County Fairgrounds on October 1st. This event brings their parish family together with the community for a day of fun and good food.

There are 21 committees busy planning for their historical German and Spanish food, steak and brat sandwiches, hamburgers and hot dogs, arts and crafts, silent auction, bake sale, petting zoo and pony rides. Games for children include pumpkin painting, face painting and prizes, games set-up for the teens also includes prizes.

Both admission and parking are free, meal tickets are $15 each and may be purchased from a church member, at the church office at 1210 E. Wood St., in Paris, or online at holycrossparistn.org. Your ticket stub enters you in the 6 pm drawing. 1st prize is $500, 2nd prize is $300 and 3rd prize is $200.

The Paris Fire Department will be at the fairgrounds with a fire truck and give-a-ways from 11 am till 3pm. The Sheriff’s Department will be doing a trained dog demonstration at 11:30 am.

This year they have added a 5K Fun Run that starts at the fairgrounds at 8 am. Registration is $20 and includes a tee shirt and gift bag. You can stop by the office to register or call Holy Cross at 731-642-4681. Deadline to register is the day of the race. The race is sponsored by Joe Mahan Ford and West’s Wheel and Tire.

This is the biggest annual fun raiser, and a large portion of the revenue from this event helps support several local agencies as well as their own youth activities. In the past, they have donated to Project Help, PLUS Endowment Fund, Helping Hands, the Art Council and the Family Resource Center. It is import to Holy Cross Catholic Church to give back to the Paris community.

Be sure to mark your calendars and come out to the Henry County fairgrounds to enjoy the food and fun from 11 am to 6 pm on October 1st.
