UT Extension Master Beef Class

UT Extension in Henry, Obion & Weakley Counties are offering an Area Multi-County Winter Master Beef Producer Program. The Winter Master Beef Producer Program is an educational program designed to provide information to Tennessee cow-calf producers to help them be the very best in the country, improve their profitability and position the industry to be competitive with other states.

The Master Beef Producer Program will offer three educational sessions, which will take place in February. The first session will begin on February 24th and the final session will conclude on February 26th. February dates include Thursday the 24th, Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th. Classes will be held at Tennessee Tractor in Martin, Tennessee (8258 HWY 45 South) and begin promptly each night at 6:00 pm, except for the February 26th Class. On February 26th class activities will begin at 8:30 am. A team of University of Tennessee Extension agents and specialists will lead the Master Beef Producer Program.  The cost of the program is $125. For those producers that are not BQA certified, a certification training session with an additional fee will be offered, so all producers will be able to complete their certification requirements.

Topics covered during the three sessions will include forage (weed management/hay/grazing cover crops), facilities, nutrition, end product/carcass evaluation, genetics, and production economics/budgets/marketing.

Producers must complete all three sessions in order to receive their Master Beef Producer certificate.  In addition, those completing the course will receive a Master Beef Producer cap and a farm sign.  The Master Beef Producer program, like all UT Extension programs, provides equal opportunity to all persons.

In addition, those completing the Master Beef Producer program will be eligible for increased cost share funds through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Ag Enhancement Program Cattle Initiative and Feed Storage Program.

For additional information, please contact the Henry County UT Extension Office at 642-2941.  Please register and pay your class fee by Thursday, February 17th (1120 Tyson AVE / Paris, TN 38242).
