Carey Counseling Now Offering Children’s Behavioral Health Program

Carey Counseling Center has been approved as one of 17 agencies in Tennessee that will be allowed to operate a new program to treat children’s behavioral health issues.

The Children’s Behavioral Health Safety Net (BHSN) program provides essential outpatient mental health services for children ages 3-17 who lack insurance coverage.

A similar program for adults has existed since 2009, but the children’s program only recently began,

Josh Douglas, BHSN outreach coordinator, said Carey, which has six outpatient centers and four residential facilities in Northwest Tennessee, said children in the proper age range could be admitted to the program regardless of family income as long as they have no other behavioral health coverage.

Services available include: assessment and evaluation; individual, group and family therapy; case management; family support services; medication management; pharmacy assistance and coordination; and transportation.

Douglas said parents can call Carey to talk about receiving services through the safety net program. The access center telephone number is 1-800-611-7757.

Carey Counseling Center in Paris is located at 408 Virginia St. Carey also has a peer support center at 1539 Hwy. 69 northwest of Paris.

Douglas said six Carey offices, including the one in Paris, will be offering the BHSN services. He said more information can be found online at www.careycounselingcenter.org.
